Painting

Susie Marwick

North Fremantle artist Susie Marwick began studying art in the 1970’s at, the then, James St Technical College, now Central Institute of Technology. She then went on to train as a shoe maker which she worked at for over 20 years. Susie has, in recent years, moved to painting and sculpture.

Susie’s paintings reflect her love of local landscapes. She concentrates on scenes of Fremantle – the port, river, beach and several industrial scenes. Susie’s paintings are printed as miniature giclee art prints and set inside sardine tins as free-standing artworks perfectly reflecting Fremantle. As well as her iconic sardine-tin-paintings Suzie makes small poetic sculptures combining beach detritus found on her morning walk along Fremantle’s Leighton Beach, and sculpted materials (plaster, papier- mâché, sculpey, wire) and paint.
