Christian Rendtorff

After finishing high school, German born Christian Rendtorff started making historical models for the Heidelberg Museum, Germany. In this role Christian gained an appreciation for different materials and shaping them into objects and artifacts. In order to develop his skills further, Christian completed an apprenticeship in cabinet-making, specialising in solid furniture, furniture restoration and natural finishing materials.

In 1988 Christian moved to Western Australia and as been working with Australian timbers for many years. He has concentrated on making boxes because many West Australian timber species are of small size or are of a curved and irregular form. Christian does not use timber from old growth forests and uses waxes and oils from natural extractions.

Christian has supplied Found at Fremantle Arts Centre with beautiful timber boxes for over twenty years.
