This work was begun whilst the artist undertook a residency at the Donnelly River Village in 2019. Working from ink drawings on paper, Fardoe constructed a “mindscape” fusing observation from her walks through the Donnelly landscape and her own internal explorations. Working through the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic the mood behind the work progressively darkened moving left to right and became a metaphor for the artists mind at the time. Once finished the original drawing was scanned and manipulated digitally, mirrored and made into a negative. Fardoe says of the work: “The mirror image heightens our inevitable wandering and searching in circles.
relays my emotional journey through changing forest zones and shifting moods” and is one of 51 works selected as finalists in the 2021 Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award. Printed by Fitzgerald Printing.
