Impossible Shadow #34

Jennifer Cochrane

Jennifer Cochrane’s Impossible Shadow #34 is part of an ongoing exploration into perspective, patterns and processes. The work represents a natural progression in Cochrane’s work and is part of an ongoing series that reinterprets shadows from previous sculptural works. With this piece the artist is interested in the way that a shadow may be considered an ephemeral print, capturing a moment in time. A cube form is covered with industrial flashing tape; the tape is repetitively pressed and moulded to create an embossed effect, simultaneously covering and revealing, then the cube form is removed. The work becomes both a memory and a record of a work that came before. Impossible Shadow #34 is one of 51 works selected as finalists in the 2021 Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award.
