This painting depicts the native flowers that bloom across the Australian desert, especially in the cooler months and after rain. Many of these flowers signify particular things, such as an abundance of bush food or the signalling of certain times of year. Some flowers, like those of the kalin-kalinpa (honey grevillea), can be eaten for a sweet treat or brewed into a cordial to enhance the flavour of water.
