"This is the 'brindany' (stingray) who are an important food source for Yawuru people, traditionally hunted during 'Laja' Season (around late September) when they are nice and fat. We love to cook them up on the fire coals and eat them fresh off the fire."

Mareeya grew up in Rubibi/Broome on Yawuru country. She started work at Nagula Jarndu in 2023 as a causal during her holiday break from university and being in this creative space has sparked her interest in art design.
