“With my Aunty we used to go to collect quandongs at Riverside Station, Ajana. We’d only get enough to make a pie and they’d cook up like peaches. Aunty had a bowl to put the quandongs in that we gathered and we only ever took just enough; we didn’t have eskies or ways to store food. We’d come in and fill that big wooden bowl. So then my Aunty would cook that quandong pie and serve it with hot custard and we’d have a piece with a cup of tea. My Mum taught me the main things of life but my aunties taught me everything else.”
