ANIMA #1 ed 4/5

Christophe Canato

$3,000.00

Christophe Canato’s Anima #1 is an extract from his larger Anima Series which explores the inner feminine side of the man. According to Jungian theory, the Anima is both a personal complex and an archetype that expresses the fact that a man’s psyche has a minority of feminine qualities. In Canato’s approach to the subject of this work, the artist has also included elements of the fantastical, in the vibrancy of the print’s colour as well as the blue pigmentation of the figures skin, a reference to power and benevolence of the Indian divinities Krishna and Shiva. This meshing of both godlike qualities and personal complex imbue the subject of Canato’s work as both other and at the same time powerful in that otherness. Anima #1 is one of 51 works selected as finalists in the 2021 Fremantle Arts Centre Print Award. Edition 4/5. Printed by Fitzgerald Pro Lab
