Victoria Martinez Zurbano
Her work preserves cultural heritage while exploring historical traditions, creating a meaningful connection between past and present. Born in Corrientes, Argentina, and now based in Perth, Martínez Zurbano studied architecture at UNNE, gaining valuable insight into design thinking, though she did not complete the program. Her artistic journey has been largely self-taught, nurtured by her mother, artist Yasí Avalos. Ceramics became her transformative medium in 2015, guided by master’s like María Inés Rossi and Villafañe. Since 2012, she has co-directed the cultural-ecological space “La Pépinière” and “Taller de la Luna Llena,” where she and her mother work to recover traditional techniques and develop new identities through ceramics. Her exhibitions from 2015 to 2022 include ArteCo, Tembe’y Orilla, and a pre-Hispanic ceramics workshop at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology of Corrientes. In her workshops, she focuses on traditional methods, emphasizing the creation of authentic, character-filled pieces that reconnect us with ritual and material.
