Susan Flavell is an artist with 30 years’ experience making, teaching and exhibiting, with a particular focus on sculpture. Her works employs a wide range of techniques, from traditional mediums such as bronze casting, painting, drawing, ceramics and embroidery, to the incorporation of found objects, and her trademark use of cardboard to create large-scale sculptural forms with powerful emotional resonance. She has been awarded a number of major grants and prizes including the Artists Foundation of Western Australia’s Basel Exchange and the Mark Howlett Foundation Commission #14. She is currently mid-way through a multiyear project focused on the creation of thirteen goddesses, to result in a major solo exhibition at John Curtin Gallery in 2024.
