Body of Water
relief print on 8 sheets of stained handmade Korean paper
Gary Shinfield is an Australian artist, who graduated in 2004 with a Masters in Fine Arts/Printmaking from COFA, the University of New South Wales, Sydney. In 1990 he received a Post Graduate Diploma in Printmaking from the Australian National University, ACT.
His practice focuses on relief printmaking and mixed media works on paper. Works made are often large scale, made in series and shown unframed. Images map journeys to site specific places in Australia and overseas. His approach is to respond to place with abstract, gestural mark making, and to explore the processes of making. The print media used are woodcut, linocut and etching. Mixed media works on paper explore drawing and painting techniques on various handmade papers.
His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and acquired in public and private collections.
