“Growing up, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t exposed to art. Both my mum and nan, who are celebrated Aboriginal artists/authors, are constantly telling the stories of our culture and family history through their art. I am humbled by the wisdom of my ancestors, scarring a tree as a means to carry a baby; or travel down stream. These scar trees are a direct link to our ancestors. It is imperative that we treat them as sacred—as they did—to avoid any more missing links in our connection to place.” |
