DJ is the nephew of Darrell Sibosado, a selected artist for the Triennial. The Sibosado family are Bard people from Lombadina in northern Western Australia on the Dampier Peninsula.
Darrell is a promising young artist in his own right with a desire to continue the traditional Bard practice of pearl shell carving. This did not go unnoticed by uncles Darrell and Garry Sibosado, both of whom Darrell now works closely with to learn the traditional skills and the stories and knowledge that go with it.
His uncle Darrell Sibosado saw the selection for the triennial as the perfect opportunity for handing down of skills and important cultural heritage from uncle to nephew. As a mentorship, it also offers a perfect opportunity for professional development in the arts, as Darrell Kyle aims to travel to Fremantle, as a co-author of the proposed work of carved fish (Untitled) and be involved in the installation, opening events and talks.
