Printmaking

Blue Lawn Designs

Blue Lawn Designs is the screenprinting studio of creative duo – Chris McDonald and Claire Bradshaw.

Blue Lawn Designs produce a range of screen printed products and homewares, frequently showcasing Western Australia’s iconic beaches, buildings, landscapes, flora and fauna. Their studio is located in the heart of Fremantle at Pakenham Street Art Space.

Chris started screenprinting when he was fifteen, attending the Melbourne College of Printing and Graphic Arts, and completing a five-year apprenticeship. During the 1970s Chris was printing some of the earliest photographic images on t-shirts – mainly rock bands of the era. He also learned textile printing from master yardage printers supplying the fashion and soft furnishing markets.

Chris left Melbourne in the mid-1970s for Western Australia where he set up Snapshot Screen Printing – which was one of the earliest textile yardage printers in the state.

His visual arts journey has been an interrupted affair, and after some decades away from textile printing, his circuitous life journey has brought him back with a renewed vigour. It was something he learned when he was young and he loved it. It has never left him.
