2022 Revealed Exhibition: New and Emerging WA Aboriginal Artists

Beryl Ponce

Port Hedland

Lives and works

South Hedland

Beryl grew up in Strelley, living there for a long time with her family. After school she became a teacher of English, language, and mathematics. She moved to Hedland in 2003 and then her mum, grandmother, brother and sister all passed away.

“It’s good to be out here painting,” Beryl says, “To sit with the people and make friends and be happy. Painting is like telling stories about history, life, talking about myself, my parents and the past. I want to make a story for the young ones, my story. So, my grandkids and great grandkids might carry it on in the future.”
