Audrey Fernandes-Satar traces her heritage to the people of Gaunco Vaddo who left Goa during the nineteenth century. Her body of work involves the investigation of the interfaces of Identity and History by expanding and regenerating historical visual texts through a process of painting and drawing that involves erasure, covering and coating, at the same time honouring the knowledge of her grandmothers’ stories and confronting colonial texts. In 1977 she graduated in Fine Arts from Escola Superior de Belas Artes, University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1999 she graduated with a Master of Education at Murdoch University and in 2010 completed a PhD at Murdoch University in Perth. Audrey is a Lecturer at Murdoch University in Western Australia teaching Cultural Studies and Critical Theory.
