Ceramicist

Amanda Harris

Amanda Harris celebrates nature in her whimsical ceramic sculptures and functional tableware. Using her vast collections of objects, ranging from animal shaped buttons to lace doilies, she press moulds them into stoneware clay. Amanda then stains the surface in varying intensities of blue and coats each piece with a clear glaze making the work entirely suited to daily use.

Amanda’s background in painting is apparent in her ceramic work in the way she weaves narratives with her patterning. The blue and white colouring is reminiscent of a broader historical tradition in domestic home wares and highlights the textural impressions on the vessel surface.
